We currently are seeking three interns for the first half of 2019.  See position descriptions below.

Additionally, we have an ongoing open call for collaborative masters research projects. If interested, please contact us with a page description of your research proposal, detailing how your work fits within our current programming. Current topics of interest to us are circular economy, urban greening, green roofs, community programs, green jobs, and sustainable business models. Send proposals to adam@nabolagshager.no. We will select up to four masters thesis’ collaborations per year, and proposals must be closely aligned with current visions and projects that we are engaged in, to be considered.

Please note; most of our staff and consultants began as interns, developing projects and obtaining grants to create paid work for themselves – there is potential for you to have our help working towards a similar path.

(1) Intern – Marketing and Creative Communication

This internship runs from February until mid June.  The expected contribution is 8-10 hours each week with some time at our office and some independent work.  

What you’ll do

  • We are looking for an intern that is excited about social media and digital communication in general.  As we are a small staff, you’ll get a chance to work on a lot of different skills: working on updating communication strategy, managing web analytics, and helping manage social media accounts.
  • Work closely with Nabolagshager core team to help create/update the branding and marketing scheme for the organization.
  • Work with our youth, green jobs program to help mentor participants through marketing and communication tasks.
  • During less-busy time periods, you may be asked to help with application writing.

(2) Intern – Green business / Youth employment adviser

hand-3190204Nabolagshager conducts a green jobs program wherein we work with youth participants to develop strategies to solve problems in Grønland. Currently, a group of ten youth have created a compost program, using waste resources from the city block around our office. We are eager to take a product to market in the near future and develop a sustainable revenue model to contribute to paying our program participants.

The position

This internship runs from February until June.  The expected contribution is 8-10 hours each week with some time at our office and some independent work.  

What you’ll do

  • Work closely with Nabolagshager leadership to help develop business models around our green jobs program as well as larger business decisions of the organization.
  • We expect to continue our work with business model canvas, value propositions, and service design. We expect you to be familiar with the terminology and practical applications of those models
  • In addition, you will spend time with youth program participants, listening to their input and co-creating with them in regards to business decisions.
  • Working at Nabolagshager requires flexibility and a diverse set of skills from your side, but comes with a lot of freedom and great learning opportunities.

(3) Intern – Research assistant, placemaking

This internship runs from February until mid June, with possibilities of extensions for the right candidate.  The expected contribution is 10-20 hours each week with some time at our office and some independent work. This internship can also be conducted remotely, with bimonthly checkins with your supervisor through skype and regular e-mailing.

What you’ll do

  • The intern will perform desk research and produce reports on the following topics;
    • The history of placemaking in Oslo, including a thorough mapping of initiatives that are considered to having had a positive impact. The research should also map current policy/ planning tools that open or restrict the applicability of placemaking as tools for a greener and ‘friendlier’ Oslo.
    • The history of placemaking in Vienna, including a thorough mapping of initiatives that are considered to having had a positive impact. The research should also map current policy/ planning tools that open or restrict the applicability of placemaking as tools for a greener and ‘friendlier’ Vienna.
    • The broader history of placemaking in Europe to contextualize the current applications throughout Europe, highlighting cultural, geographical and economic differences and similaries across European regions.
    • Additional research tasks on related topics may be allocated to you, if they fall within the agreed timeframes of the internship.
  • Your input will be a valuable asset to our European collaborative project PLACECITY, and will be an important building block for the European Placemaking Network, which is currently forming across Europe, under the auspice of STIPO in the Netherlands.

Who you are…   

  • A (masters’) student, or recent graduate of, placemaking-relevant studies such as urban development, human geography, architecture, landscape architecture or similar, who is passionate about contributing to creating greener and people-friendly cities, in Norway and throughout Europe.
  • Excited about the potential to contribute to a radically different, people-friendly and biodiversity-rich cities, and collaborations with likeminded people across Europe.
  • You want to convert your concerns for sustainability and the environment into meaningful action
  • Able to take ownership over a project and see it to completion
  • Able to work independently once a task is allocated

Requirements

  • You have studies or work experience in topics related to placemaking.
  • You have a high level of English proficiency and you have excellent writing skills, which includes academic and non-academic writing, such as writing for web publishing, newsletters or policy briefs.
  • A working knowledge of German and/or Norwegian is an asset but not a requirement.
  • You are a good team player and have an innovative and creative mindset.
